Well Alexi, on the comic book and game side, the strike does not effect anything because comic book writers and game writers are not covered under the guild. However, yours truly was working on a film deal and some other script-related deals and those have been put on hold. Ironically, I have gotten more comic book work since the strike began, than any time previously. (And there's more on the way.)
So, personally, my finances have never been better. But business-wise the strike has my full support. The WGA minimums are way lower than I previously thought and way lower in the context of the current marketplace. And this whole idea of calling writers "segment producers" just to avoid paying them royalties is an outrage. I also didn't realize that animation and reality show writers were not included in the WGA.
The producers have acted in an appalling fashion in my opinion. A recent blogpost over at united hollywood put it all in perspective for me:
